What Is an IOP Program for Mental Health?

Intensive outpatient programs are a mental health care that fits into your schedule, rather than disrupts it. IOPs often require 3-4 hours a session, 3-5 days a week, but this can change based on need. Holistic therapy approaches from these sessions provide tools to take back to your everyday life each day.

IOPs include group sessions where you talk with others going through similar struggles and structured one-on-one time with a therapist. This support and flexibility are perfect for those with family, work, or school commitments who still need mental health care.

What We Treat With IOP Therapy

Drift helps people with many mental health issues, from anxiety and depression to ADHD, bipolar disorder, and more. Our treatment plans blend proven techniques, like psychotherapy, medication management, and family therapy. We also use CBT to reshape thinking patterns, DBT to handle tough emotions, and healing practices like art therapy for holistic well-being.

How Long Does IOP Treatment Last?

Most people stay in our IOP for 2-6 months, but this is adjustable. We look at your progress and alter it as needed, ensuring your needs and goals always align with your treatment plan. We strive to give you the right amount of support for a duration that works for you—whether that’s less or more time.

Virtual and In-Person Options

If you or your loved one can’t make it to in-person sessions, we offer a virtual IOP. This allows you to join quality treatment sessions from the comfort of your home on Zoom. You’ll get the same great care—group sessions, one-on-one therapy, and all the support you need.

Our virtual program is typically 1-2 months for 5-6 days a week but can be adjusted to suit your needs. To help you stay on track, you’ll have your own dedicated clinician and at-home lab testing if required. This option includes Monday-Saturday daytime options and Monday-Thursday evening slots.

Costs and Insurance

At Drift, we accept all major insurance plans for our in-person and virtual IOP programs. Cost is based on your insurance provider and the specifics of your care. Our team can help you understand your coverage and which options you have.

What Is PHP Therapy vs. IOP?

PHP offers more support with longer sessions and more treatment days each week. For example, we often follow 5-6 days weekly, with each session being 5 hours. Like our IOP, this schedule can change to meet your needs and includes the same therapy methods. PHP is great for people who need extra support during tough times but don’t need to stay overnight in a hospital.

IOP has shorter sessions and fewer days each week. This works well for those who are more stable but still need regular support. Many people move to IOP after finishing PHP or use it as their main treatment option. It’s all about which treatment is best for you.
